What does my daughter's eyegl perscription mean? What does she see without gles?
Wow! She's got quite a prescription! OD ( Latin, ocular dexter) is the right eye OS ( ocular sinister) is the left eye. According to her Rx (sphere), she is hyperoptic meaning she is farsighted. (has trouble seeing up close) The cylinder is the amount of astigmatism she has. (which is quite a bit!) Astigmatism is when the eye is shaped more like a football than round. It can affect how well we see up close. Most of us have it to a certain degree. The axis is the degree in which the eyeball is positioned in the orbit. The P.D. stands for pupillary distance. It the the distance between the two pupils and is essential when fitting for gles. I used to be the managing optician for an optometrist before I stayed home to raise my two toddlers. I worked in optical for almost 10 years. Hope this info helps!
