Brown mascara for asian eyelashes?

I'm Korean, so I have these thin, short, wimpy little asian eyelashes. They are dark, but I wear mascara for length and volume. Lately though, I've noticed that my favorite black mascara seems a little too harsh for day time. If I don't wear it though, my face looks a little washed out because I have very fair skin. I just want something a little bit lighter and more natural looking without sacrificing length and volume. Would brown mascara work for me? I know it's good for people with fair hair and light eyelashes because it looks more natural, but I'm not sure if it would work for me.
