just go up to him and say hi and start a conversation. you'll be able to find out if you really like him. Personality is a big deal in a relationship! You should also be friends first then a couple, because when things happen (and they will) it can always go back to being friends. I'm a pretty shy person too, and when it comes to guys, that's pretty much my way of getting to know them. good luck!
